CSeLearning / Algebra 1-2 Mr. Steve Gurule' Hello, my name is Steve Gurule'(Gu-ru-lay). CSeLearning is off to a great start. We had tremendous success last year and are looking forward to building on that success this year. I am taking on the challenges of teaching Algebra 1-2 and look forward to working with these young people as well. I am only in my third year here at Cactus Shadows HS, but I am not new to the community. I have lived in the community for over 20 years; my two children graduated from Cactus Shadows High School and are now both teachers themselves. I am very proud of both of them. I come to CSHS with 30 years of teaching experience, 27 years at Thunderbird HS, 3 years at Pinnacle HS and 10 years as an adjunct math professor at PVCC. I am also a Highly Qualified Math Teacher with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. I have been a HS coach for those 30 years as well, coaching Baseball, Basketball, Softball and Golf(I am the current GOlf Coach here at CSHS). I look forward to working with your student. |
CSHS eLEARNING PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The CSHS eLearning Program is an alternative opportunity for students who wish to graduate from high school. Certified staff members assist students in developing their own instructional program, taking into consideration the students' interests, academic needs, and abilities.
CSHS eLearning Program will provide students with an alternative to the traditional setting in an effort to develop their skills and meet requirements for graduation. This is done in part by students completing individual contracts of assigned work under the direction of our certified teacher. Assigned work would be completed on computers and/or through independent projects. It is a collaborative effort between students and staff, and includes the support of parents/guardians, with the goal of students being more motivated to progress toward a Cactus Shadows High School diploma.
CRITERIA FOR STUDENT SELECTION
CSHS eLearning Program works with students who are seeking to become more successful than they have been in the traditional high school setting. An individualized and competency-based curriculum will create a positive educational environment for students who might otherwise drop out.
Because of limited staffing and resources, the scope of CSHS eLearning Program cannot be all encompassing. The simple fact is that the program is not intended or designed to address the needs of students with severe learning and/or behavioral problems. Students with these types of exceptional needs are able to access programs and services through special education and/or other types of student services. Rather, the CSHS eLearning Program is designed to provide an alternative educational setting for students who possess some or all of the following characteristics: · Credit deficiency · Problems with academics · Inability to relate well with others in a large educational setting · Inability to be successful in a traditional schedule
In order to be considered for enrollment in the CSHS eLearning Program, there are four criteria: · Significant credit deficiency after the 9th-grade year · Overall lack of success in the regular school environment · Desire to graduate from high school · Willingness to take the steps necessary to do so
Students and their families may choose to apply for program consideration. Students may be referred to the program by CSHS administration or counseling staff. These applications are reviewed regularly by CSHS administration and counseling staff. The student and parent who apply must be committed to working towards a high school diploma.
