Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at Horseshoe Trials Elementary School. We are beginning our first full years as an A+ School of Excellence and another year as an "A" school from the Arizona Department of Education. We are looking forward to our annual events and all the extras that go into making a school year unique and challenging. I too get excited at the start of a new school year and cannot wait for the fun sounds and sights of little ones playing and learning in every nook and cranny of our beautiful school. Our teachers work from day one to help young students learn the essential decision-making skills of Love and Logic. First we always model what our expectations are for our children at school. We can help children learn how to solve their own problems by following these steps: 1) Show understanding. "I bet that is tough." 2) Ask questions. "How do you think you're going to work that out?" 3) Get permission to share ideas. "Would you like to hear what some other children have tried before?" 4) Help the child explore possible consequences. After every suggestion ask...and how do you think that might work?" 5) Let the child "solve" or "not solve" the problem. Wish the child "good luck" with his or her decision. By practicing these skills we are truly preparing our children for the "real world" Thank you for your endless support and we are always here if we can help in any way! We just know this is going to be the best year ever at HTES!
