Lead Trainer

Have you ever thought about becoming a school bus driver? If you think this sounds like something you would like to do, here is some information to help you get started.

PROCEDURES FOR BECOMING A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

  1. Submit a completed application (see Employment in the left column).
  2. If you are selected, an interview will be scheduled.

IF YOU ARE HIRED

  1. You will be fingerprinted.
  2. You will be scheduled for a drug test and physical.
  3. You will have classroom training (paid) for a minimum of 14 hours. This will include training for special needs students.
  4. You will need to acquire a CDL permit. You will need to take these tests:
    1. General Knowledge
    2. Passenger Endorsement
    3. Student Endorsement
    4. Air Brake Endorsement

I recommend you read the entire CDL manual as your General Knowledge test could include anything you read in the book.

After you have successfully passed the test and have your permit, you will be scheduled for Behind the Wheel Training (paid) for a minimum of 20 hours.

You will train on a variety of school bus types and may train with different trainers.
During the training you will be required to pass a Physical Agility Test.

At the end of your training you will take a driving test required by Third Party Testing. This is done here on site and I will be your tester. You will be tested on:

  1. Pre-trip Vehicle Inspection
  2. Basic Control Skills
  3. Road Test

After you have completed and passed these steps you are ready to drive.
